And then some ...

We are interesting creatures. We like to be surprised and delighted.

Have you ever seen or heard ads where the pitchman is touting the fact that his business is fair and honest. They’ll say things like, “We offer honest value for your dollar”. Or, they’ll say, “We have fair and honest prices.”

Well, duh!

Isn’t that special?!

What I’m saying is -- if your customer walks out of your place of business and all he can say is, “Gee, I was treated fairly” – then you really don’t have much going for you. After all, the expectation of “fair treatment” is a basic assumption that every customer has – and for the most part, takes for granted. And frankly, it isn’t much to be advertising.

It would be much more beneficial for your business if people walked out of your store saying, “Gee, I am delighted with the little bit extra they did for me at no cost.” Or, “I am thrilled that they threw in a little bit more and then some!”

How does this work?

Well, when a customer buys your product, goods, or services – at a fair price – add a little extra to sweeten the pot. Give them a little bit more that they didn’t expect. Surprise them. Add an extra – at no extra cost. Go the extra mile – and then some.

Now you are creating “delight”. Now you are building an army of loyal customers who will create outstanding word-of-mouth buzz about your business. Now you will be on your way to marketing success.

Appealing to the emotions rather than the intellect, the delight factor is a powerful thing.

Good Selling!
